Our Frequently Asked Questions
Research consistently shows that working with a financial advisor can have a measurable impact on long-term results. Studies from Vanguard and Russell Investments estimate that professional guidance can add around 3–4% in net returns per year, primarily through disciplined investing, tax-efficient strategies, and behavioral coaching that helps clients stay the course. Beyond performance, the real value lies in having a clear plan and a trusted partner to help you make confident, informed decisions. At Hook Wealth Management, we believe that the right advice doesn’t just grow your wealth — it keeps you anchored through every market condition and focused on what truly matters.

Learn more: The Value of Working with a Financial Professional
We believe in transparency and alignment. Our compensation is tied directly to your success. We charge a straightforward, percentage-based fee on the assets we manage for you, which means we grow only when you do. As your household’s assets increase, our advisory fee tapers down, ensuring you benefit from economies of scale as your wealth grows. This structure keeps our interests aligned with yours, motivating us to protect, grow, and manage your portfolio with care, efficiency, and long-term focus.
Our Fiduciary Commitment<>
At HWM, we operate as fiduciaries, meaning your best interests always come first. Being a fiduciary isn’t a marketing term to us; it’s a responsibility we take personally. It reflects how we view our role: as stewards of your trust, guiding your financial journey with honesty, transparency, and care.
What Being a Fiduciary Means to You
Your interests come first. Every recommendation we make must be driven solely by what benefits you, not by commissions or corporate incentives.
Full transparency. We clearly explain how we’re compensated, what your options are, and why each strategy fits your goals.
Ongoing accountability. Our fiduciary duty doesn’t end when you sign paperwork. We continue through every decision and review.
Independent advice. As an independent practice, we’re not tied to proprietary products or one-size-fits-all models.
Trusted partnerships. We partner with top custodians and platforms (like Osaic Wealth, Inc. and NFS LLC) to ensure your accounts are held securely and monitored with integrity.
In short:
We don’t sell products, we build plans. We don’t chase transactions, we pursue trust. That’s the difference of working with a fiduciary.
At Hook Wealth Management, we don’t believe in strict minimums. We believe in meaningful relationships. While our services are typically most valuable for clients with investable assets of around $250,000 or more, we understand that every financial journey starts somewhere unique. If you’re still building toward that level but are serious about growing your wealth and see value in our approach, we welcome the opportunity to connect. Let’s have an initial conversation to see if we’re the right fit to navigate your financial future together.
Your assets are held by a reputable third-party custodians that are vetted by our broker dealer Osaic, including but not limited to: Charles Schwab, Fidelity, and NFS. This arrangement provides an added layer of security and transparency. As your advisor, we have the authority to manage these assets based on our agreed-upon strategy, but we never have direct access to your funds. You’ll receive regular statements directly from the custodian, allowing you to verify your holdings and any transactions independently.
We provide several tools and methods to help you stay informed about your financial picture. While Statements have always been a part of the financial world, we add many additional tools to give more clarity for future planning. These technology tools we use don’t fit everyone, and we know that, we adjust which program works for you. At the same time we encourage you to ask us for something different if you need it. We utilize first-in-class technologies above and beyond the average advisor and give our clients access to this!
Regular performance reports and portfolio reviews
- Access to a secure client portal where you can view your accounts, important documents, and financial plans
- Quarterly newsletters with market updates and financial tips
- Annual comprehensive financial reviews
Additionally, as mentioned earlier, you’ll receive statements directly from your account custodian. We’re always available to answer any questions you might have about your accounts or financial situation.
As part of our comprehensive approach to financial planning, we often collaborate with other professionals such as accountants, estate planning attorneys, and insurance specialists. When we make referrals:
- We recommend professionals based on their expertise, reputation, and how well they align with your specific needs
- We don’t receive any compensation for these referrals, ensuring our recommendations are unbiased
- We’re happy to coordinate with these professionals on your behalf to ensure a cohesive strategy
- You’re always free to choose your own professionals if you prefer
Our goal is to assemble a team of experts who can address all aspects of your financial life effectively.

Market Sell-Offs
Yes, these happen, no one knows when it happens but when they do we know your stomach turns. We know it is easy to call while a market's going up, but more importantly we call in these moments.
A good example was during Covid, the first few weeks we had remote offices and reached out to every single client. One of the famous lines that we tell everyone is that pull-backs are inevitable, and these can also stage opportunities, but we are human and know investing during these times are some of the hardest to do. We stay with you every step of the way.
Remember, these are general guidelines. We’re flexible and can adjust the meeting frequency based on your specific needs and preferences.
There is almost no chance that I don’t call you back the same day. I am known to call people back and they say why did you call me back on Saturday or a holiday. It's easy, if you thought it was that important to call or email during that time, I thought it should be just as important for me to get back to you.
Choosing HWM means choosing a relationship built on access, authenticity, and accountability — qualities that can get lost in larger institutions. While big firms often take a one-size-fits-all approach, we offer personalized guidance with institutional strength behind it. As an independent advisor, we’re not limited to one company’s products, investment models, or internal agendas. Instead, the largest financial institutions compete for the opportunity to serve our clients, giving you access to best-in-class research, strategies, and products from across the entire marketplace. We combine that freedom of choice with a deeply personal approach, taking the time to understand your goals, your family, and your vision of success.
The Result: Big-firm resources, small-firm attention, and a partnership as personal as your financial journey deserves.
While most of our work is based on a transparent, percentage-of-assets fee structure, there are situations where commission-based products can serve a valuable purpose. When clients seek guaranteed income, protection, or lifetime benefits, we may use insurance or annuity-based solutions designed to provide those guarantees that traditional investments can’t. These tools are never a one-size-fits-all approach. They are implemented only when they align with a client’s goals and best interests. At Hook Wealth Management, our commitment is to objectivity and balance, using the right strategy, at the right time, for the right reason. We have zero control of what compensation these companies pay, but we rely on the powers of scale from Osaic to get us pricing to be extremely competitive for you.
At Hook Wealth Management, we surround our clients with the same level of research and insight that drives the world’s most respected financial institutions. Through partnerships and resources from firms such as Fidelity, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and Lord Abbett, we draw on a broad network of market intelligence, portfolio strategy, and economic research. This allows us to blend independent advice with institutional-grade perspective, giving every client the confidence that their financial plan is backed by some of the sharpest minds in the industry.
We have access to 1000’s of strategies, put together by many of the top institutions in the world. If there is a company you want to learn more about, just ask us. We understand that our clients are so diverse and we have the technology to assist us with identifying the best choices.
Working with a broker-dealer provides clients with an additional layer of oversight, due diligence, and access to a broad universe of financial solutions. At Hook Wealth Management, our broker-dealer partnership helps ensure that every investment, product, and platform we use meets strict standards for compliance, suitability, and performance. It also gives our clients access to institutional resources, research, and technology that might not be available through smaller or standalone advisory firms. That said, we’re not married to any one firm or product. Our independence means we evaluate options objectively and act solely in our clients’ best interests. The broker-dealer relationship enhances our ability to protect clients while maintaining the freedom to build strategies that are right for them, not for us.
- Right Capital
- RightCapital is a modern financial planning software platform designed specifically for advisors to build, present, and maintain comprehensive financial plans. It offers powerful tools such as interactive retirement projections, tax-efficient strategies (including Roth conversion modeling), Monte Carlo simulations, cash flow mapping, Social Security optimization, and scenario stress testing. We use RightCapital to visualize both simple and complex financial situations in a digestible way — using visual dashboards like “Snapshot” and “Blueprint” views — and to engage clients in ongoing planning through a client portal and mobile access.
- Osaic Wealth
- Osaic Wealth, Inc. serves as our primary broker-dealer, similar in function to major custodial firms such as Charles Schwab or TD Ameritrade. Think of Osaic as the regulatory and operational backbone that allows us to focus on what we do best — serving our clients. We partner with Osaic because they specialize in supporting independent advisors, ensuring our firm operates with full compliance under SEC and FINRA oversight. It’s important to note that Osaic Wealth, Inc. does not manufacture investment products — there’s no such thing as an “Osaic Wealth mutual fund.” Instead, we pay Osaic a small percentage of our revenue in exchange for their supervision and support, which includes monitoring trades, communications, and records to uphold strict regulatory standards. They also provide continuing education, compliance updates, and conduct annual audits of our firm. This partnership allows us to remain fully independent while maintaining the highest level of regulatory integrity — giving our clients confidence that their interests always come first.
- NFS, LLC
- National Financial Services (NFS, LLC) serves as the clearing firm for Osaic Wealth, Inc. A clearing firm is responsible for reconciling data, processing trades, maintaining accurate account records, and generating your official account statements and confirmations. Each account custodied through NFS is protected by Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) coverage of up to $500,000, including up to $250,000 for cash claims, in the event of firm insolvency or fraud. In addition, NFS maintains excess insurance coverage through Lloyd’s of London for added protection. For full details, please visit www.sipc.org. Please note that SIPC coverage does not protect against market fluctuations or investment losses.
