How legacy shaped our firm story and approach
After more than 20 years serving families and individuals in their financial journeys, I chose to rebuild my practice under a new name: Hook Wealth Management. This decision was not about a logo or a brand refresh — it is about legacy, resilience, and carrying forward the people who shaped me.
Life has a way of reminding us what truly matters. In recent years, my family and I faced challenges that tested our resolve. We lost our home to a devastating fire, and through the process of rebuilding, I was reminded that no matter how prepared we believe we are, life can shift in an instant. We also said goodbye to loved ones whose influence remains a daily guide for me, none more profound than my father, Joe Hill. Known to many as “Captain Hook,” he owned and ran a nautical shop in the South Street Seaport for 25 years. His story was remembered in The New York Times: “Joe Hill, Swashbuckling South Street Seaport Merchant, Dies at 76” (NYT, Oct. 29, 2023).
For me, naming this firm Hook Wealth Management is more than a nod to the sea. It is a way of honoring my father’s spirit, his entrepreneurial drive, and his gift for connecting with people from every walk of life. But it is also about honoring everyone who has shaped my path — family, friends, mentors, and clients — whose memory and lessons remain present in all that I do. I believe you carry people forward not by speaking of them occasionally, but by allowing their values to live on in the choices you make every day.

Matthew Hill is the Founder of Hook Wealth Management and one of the original Co-Founders of Client Focused Advisors. With over 20 years in the financial services industry, Matt has built his career on helping clients chart a steady course toward financial independence and multigenerational success. For more than a decade, he was responsible for recruiting, training, and developing new advisors across the tri-state area—mentoring hundreds of professionals and strengthening the industry from within.
Founding Hook Wealth Management represents the next evolution in Matt’s journey. By creating this new firm, his vision is to bring his clientele to the next level—combining world-class research, advanced strategies, and a deeply personal approach. His focus is on ensuring that every client has access to the very best options available, so they can make confident financial decisions that last across lifetimes and generations.
Matt’s number one objective is, and always has been, taking care of his clients. Every decision, every strategy, and every recommendation begins with their best interests at heart. He sees each client relationship not as a transaction, but as a lifelong partnership built on trust, integrity, and accountability. His philosophy is simple yet uncompromising: clients deserve the same level of care and attention that he would demand for his own family. Matt’s practice is built on a belief in multigenerational planning, reflected both in the clients he serves and in his own team of advisors. Whether working with business owners, executives, or medical professionals, he is dedicated to creating tailored Wealth & Protection strategies that fit each client’s unique needs while adapting to life’s changes along the way.
A graduate of the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Finance, Matt is also a lifelong Long Island resident. He is philanthropically active in children’s charities across Long Island and New York City, honoring the values instilled in him by his late father, Joe Hill—affectionately known as “Captain Hook” during his 25 years running a nautical store in South Street Seaport. This legacy of resilience and vision lives on through Hook Wealth Management’s name and mission.
Matt lives in Huntington, New York, with his wife, Erika, and their daughter, Calista. In his free time, you’ll find him close to the water—whether at the beach, a park, or overlooking the harbor—always alongside his greatest treasures, Erika and Calista.
